The day of the funeral
The Funeral Ceremony is the culmination of the work that has taken place since the death occurred. Although only one of the many functions of the Funeral Director, to many people, the sight of a funeral cortege is probably the one most associated with the funeral service. It is significant to note that the word funeral is derived from the Latin “funeralis” meaning a torchlight procession. D. B. Devall & Son Funeral Directors will be in attendance throughout the proceedings, to ensure the smooth running of events. They will take on the role of master of ceremonies, carrying out the task of guiding, directing and overseeing the funeral.

As well as the Funeral Director, four members of staff will also be present. These pallbearers will be attired in smart dark blue appropriate dress and will ensure professional dignified attendance and supervision throughout the funeral. If you or any member of your family is unsure of anything, tell your Funeral Director. This is what we are here for, to help and guide people through one of the hardest days of your life.
Additional Services
Dove Release
Comfort can be found in the symbolic gesture of releasing doves as part of the funeral service either at the graveside or in the garden of remembrance at the crematorium. Saying goodbye to a loved one is never easy and words are often not enough. Releasing doves during the ceromony give family and friends the opportunity to pay tribute to the departed as they say their farewells. Doves represent the soul and spirit being set free in a beautiful, respectful and loving way. Doves are a worldwide symbol of peace, love and serenity and their flight and symbolic ascension to heaven provide a special tribute to conclude the funeral service.

Funeral Bagpiper’s
For centuries pipers have played at funerals to commemorate the loss of a loved one. The appearance and soulful sound of the bagpiper playing traditional songs can express convictions and feelings that words alone may fail to convey. A piper can be arranged to play at a church, cemetery, crematorium and if required at the address where the cortege is commencing from. The pipers are highly experienced and willing to play specific music choices and give help and advise where needed in a sensitive manner. The pipes offer a fitting tribute to a loved one and can uplift the spirit and touch the hearts of family and friends.
